Fatal shooting at funfair: arrest warrant for 16-year-old

Lüdenscheid (dpa) – After the fatal shooting at the funfair in Lüdenscheid, a teenager was taken into custody on urgent suspicion of premeditated manslaughter. The suspect had his residence in Lüdenscheid, the Hagen prosecutor’s office announced on Tuesday.

The authorities did not provide any information about the age of the suspect. According to dpa information, he is 16 years old. The shot is said to have been fired last weekend at the fair in the North Rhine-Westphalian city after an argument from a group of six. An apparently uninvolved man (40) from Gummersbach was fatally injured.

The teenager was arrested on Monday evening with the help of special forces in Lüdenscheid. At the time of the arrest, the apartment had also been searched. No further details were immediately available.

At the funfair in Lüdenscheid in the northwest of the Sauerland, there was a “physical confrontation” between a 16-year-old and the group on Saturday evening. When the teenager and his 52-year-old father wanted to confront the group, they fled to a residential area, the prosecutor’s office announced on Monday. Two of them, during the escape, according to the information, fired shots from a scare weapon and from a sharp firearm. The 40-year-old from Gummersbach was fatally shot. The investigators had given the age of the group as 16 to 20 years.

The funfair continued despite the incident. It is expected to last until May 29. According to the organizer, the security staff was reinforced after the incident.
