Gov’t verifying report of possible attack on Korean vessel in Strait of Hormuz

Korea is verifying reports of a possible attack on a South Korean vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, officials said Monday. The move comes after Washington launched an operation dubbed “Project Freedom,” aimed at freeing stranded ships in the narrow waterway that has been effectively blocked by Iranian forces since the U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran in late February. “We are verifying information that a South Korean vessel may have been attacked,” a government official said. The foreign ministry acknowledged such a report, but said no casualties involving South Korean nationals have been confirmed.
